Conservation Coordinator, Blue Ventures
My name is Dedy Martins, originally from Balibo, Timor Leste. In 2018 I joined the Blue Ventures team as an Administration and Operational Assistant in Dili. Since then, I’ve been promoted into the role of Conservation Coordinator, and my role involves community-based fisheries management, monitoring and outreach. With my experience working with coastal communities, I was inspired to apply and now participate in the YSEALI Marine Accelerator Program (MAP). I am working on a project about Community-based Fisheries Monitoring Group (CFM) and my initiative addresses the issues of undocumented fishing and women’s empowerment within the fisheries sector. In my spare time I like to travel, snorkeling, listen to music and play guitar. For me, the ocean is the nearest thing to heaven on earth that I have ever experienced, and I really wish all Timorese could experience the ocean someday.
