Mr. Servacio Do Nascimento
Marine Project Coordinator, Conservation International (Timor Leste)
Servacio do Nascimento graduated from TAFE - North Queensland Australia in Certificate IV of Horticulture in 2012, and is currently living and working in one of the villages on the north west coast of Timor Leste. Upon returning from Australia, he worked for an Agroforestry project in community-based natural resources management, working closely with the community in the mountainous area of Aileu Municipality in introducing good practices such as seedling production and tree planting promotion, sustainable upland farming, and income generating/livelihood development. After 6 years working in the forestry area he joined Conservation International Timor Leste in early 2019 as a marine field coordinator where he has been dedicating himself to the establishment of marine protected areas in the villages of North West Coast of Timor Leste and working in turtle protection – it is a particular joy to be able seeing turtle lay eggs and hatch safely and released back to sea. Many turtles have been saved and the hope is to save many more, advocating that turtle species can be protected until future generations. Through working with Conservation International Timor Leste, he is hoping to see more marine protected areas established and marine protected species (turtle, manta ray, whale shark, dolphins, and others) saved and live freely without worrying that one day they would end up in fishermen’s nets.
